Superficial venous insufficiency of lower extremities is the most common of all venous diseases - 80 million Americans have it. Clinically, it presents in the form of varicose veins - 25-50 million Americans suffer from varicose veins. Patients present with a wide range of complains including leg swelling, itching, burning, chronic pain and fatigue, cellulitis, recurrent leg ulcers or just visual deformities of lower extremities. As "baby boomers" age, incidence is expected to rise dramatically. Common varicose veins, so frequently neglected or overlooked by most of physicians, can and do cause significant physical handicap and financial burden.
We perform a broad range of surgical procedures on varicose veins including:
Traditionally, patients diagnosed with varicose veins would undergo vein stripping surgery. Now, patients can be treated with Radiofrequency Ablation procedure - a minimally invasive alternative to painful vein stripping surgery. Radiofrequency ablation is performed on an outpatient basis. Using ultrasound, our physicians will position the radiofrequency catheter into the diseased vein, through a small opening in the skin. The tiny catheter delivers radiofrequency energy to the vein wall. As the energy is delivered and the catheter is withdrawn, the vein wall is heated causing the collagen in the wall to shrink and the vein to close.
